Summary of Findings

  • Average class size for teachers surveyed is twenty students
  • Total students instructed each week for each teacher includes sixty fifth graders

  • Teacher computer use for student assessment ranged each week from one to five hours
  • Classroom Internet use was primarily for instruction
  • Technology use was primarily for instruction, research, and planning

  • 100% of teachers regularly made use of daily observations, tests and quizzes, and classwork in assessing students
  • On a monthly basis all teachers used rubrics and project work for assessing 40% of the time
  • Portfolios were annually used by teacher two 20% of the time
  • All teachers regularly used the computer for assessing students 100% of the time
  • Word processing, databases, and search engines for the Internet were used for assessment of students 100% of the time
  • On a yearly basis teacher two applied the use of spreadsheets, Internet activities, and program tutorials in assessment 20% of the time
  • Teacher three employed PowerPoint and integrated learning systems 20% of the time in assessment of students
